Integrative Medicine

The fusion of reductionist and holist therapies in practice

“Integrative Medicine is the practice of medicine that reaffirms the importance of the relationship between practitioner and patient, focuses on the whole person, is informed by evidence, and makes use of all appropriate therapeutic approaches, healthcare professionals and disciplines to achieve optimal health and healing.”

The definition of integrative medicine according to the Consortium of Academic Health Centre's for Integrated Medicine

We thrive.

“The two medical systems are highly complementary as the reductionist aspects of Western medicine are favorable in acute disease situations and the holistic aspects of Chinese medicine offer more opportunities in chronic conditions and for prevention.“

— van der Greef et al. (2010). Systems biology-based diagnostic principles as pillars of the bridge between Chinese and Western medicine.

The Three Principles of IM

Prevention

We recognize the self-healing ability and prevent diseases at an early stage

We apply complementary therapies to stimulate the body's self-healing ability

Non invasive Intervention

Invasive Intervention

We use medication or surgery as a last resort when the self-healing ability is not sufficient

"The two systems of traditional and Western medicine need not clash. In the context of primary care, they can live together in prosperous harmony, the best features of both systems can strengthen each other and compensate for each other's weaknesses."

— WHO Director-General Margaret Chan, WHO Congress in Beijing 2008

Next to my research, I work as an integrative dentist.
To combine my research and practice, I founded the Integrative Dentistry Center.

Our Philosophy

Integrative Dentistry integrates both conventional and complementary therapies to optimize your general health and your oral health.

For example, we work from a biocompatible approach in which we try to burden the body as little as possible with dental procedures. For that reason we work as much as possible with modern, personalized, body-friendly techniques and materials.

In addition, prevention is better than cure and prevention is the most important means of maintaining general health and oral health. For this we support your self-care to optimize your oral hygiene.
